My Education and Teaching Experiences
I am a young professional. I attained my bachelor’s degree in P.E. from Missouri State university in 2007, as well as my master’s degree in Health Promotion and Wellness Management in 2010. I am currently getting my CAPE certification at California State University, Chico.
Since 2004 I have been subbing and working in numerous school districts across the country. My first teaching job was teaching Personal Finance and Resource Math at Joplin High School in 2007/2008. While working on my master’s degree I worked part time at Excel Day Treatment, an alternative school for 12-17 year old troubled teens, as a community mentor. (A super fun rewarding job!)
After graduation I moved to Santa Maria, CA where I worked as a personal trainer for about year. Realizing I wanted to get back into the school setting I applied for a long term subbing position in the Guadalupe Union School District. I was teaching 7th grade Math for a term. After that, the district loved me so much that they offered me a semester of shared teaching 3 days a week in a 2nd Grade classroom. 🙂 Next school year the superintendent from Guadalupe, Mr. Ed Cora, gave a generous personal recommendation on my behalf to the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District and I landed my first ever P.E. position, even if it was just for a semester! I did 2 different long term substitute jobs for women who were out on pregnancy leave–first at Pioneer Valley High School teaching freshman and sophomore classes, then at Santa Maria High School teaching freshman all day.
In 2013 I did some random sub jobs in Orcutt, Aroyo Grande, and eventually moved on to the Santa Maria Bonita School District. After only 2 weeks of being registered with them they offered me a long term substitute position in a 2nd and 3rd grade Special Day Classroom. I accepted, finished out the school year, and was hired in June of 2013 for the 2013/2014 school year as a K-6 Resource teacher at Tunnell Elementary in Santa Maria, CA.
